About
In March of 2010, Micanopy was recognized as the 60th Official Transition Initiative in the United States and the first in the State of Florida! A core committee has been established to help our initiative work its way through the beginning phases of transitioning our community away from a centralized global economy to a more local and resilient one. Currently, monthly meetings are being held at the Micanopy Town Hall, located at 706 NE Cholokka Blvd in Micanopy, Florida. Our goal is to begin raising awareness about our dependence on, and increased usage of, fossil fuels and the effects of that dependence on the environment in the form of global warming and climate change, the effects on our health from the corporatization and patenting of our food supply and our livlihood by destroying our local communities in favor of economic globalization. Please subscribe to this blog to receive updates about future meetings and events.
